Studio vs. In-home Newborn Session

Yay, you’re having a baby! With all of the excitement of welcoming a new baby, there also comes quite a lengthy to-do list. After you’ve registered for all of the baby items, got the nursery ready, and finish growing a human, one more thing to consider is your newborn session. There are a few options for newborn session locations. These are a studio or your home. I’ll walk through the benefits of both!

Studio Session

Choosing a studio session could be best for you if you want a clean and minimal aesthetic. Studios are typically neutral in color and have non-distracting furniture/props. Typically, a studio has excellent lighting and you can rest-assured knowing that your images will be clean and consistent.

Another benefit of a studio session is not having to clean your home for a photoshoot. Those first few weeks with a newborn are wonderful, but exhausting. Cleaning your home may not be something you want to add to your plate.

In-home Session

An in-home session is a great way to personalize your session. If your home has good natural light (you can read a book with all the lights off), this could be a good option. This allows the photographer to capture you in your home, as well as capturing details of your nursery. The main thing to understand when it comes to photographing in your home is that the natural light will dictate where the session will take place. Sometimes the nursery is not well-lit, and while it seems a natural place for a newborn session, it may not photograph well.
