2016 – A Year in Review

Am I the only one who thought 2016 went by super fast??  Like lightning fast!  At the end of the year, I like to take some time to sit and reflect on where I’ve come from and create a game plan to get to where I want to be.  This year saw some amazing highs, but it wasn’t without a few lows.

In 2016, I had the luxury of being able to document 10 weddings.  That’s 10 couples who welcomed me into the biggest day of their lives!  I’ve loved every single couple, vendor, and photographer that I had the opportunity to work with.   When I look at where I was in my business at the beginning of 2016 and where I am now, I can’t help but feel proud of my journey, and excited for the future.

This year, my husband and I also became parents.  In August, we welcomed our son, Christian Charles, into the world.  Motherhood has been one of the most wonderful experiences, but it’s been quite an adjustment.  Those first few weeks were pretty tough (please tell me it’s like that for everyone….), but I must say, he’s a much better baby than I could have hoped for!

We also lost a great man this year.  My grandfather (“Poppy”) passed away in July at the age of 91.  He had lived with my parents since I was 7, so he was a big part of our family dynamic.  When my husband and I were deciding on baby names, we chose Charles as the middle name since that was the name of both of our grandfathers.  When Poppy passed, I was not only sad about losing such an influential man in my life, but I was also a bit bummed that Christian would never meet either of the Charles’ he was named for.  I have so many great memories of him, and I feel so blessed to have had all those years with him.

Throughout 2016, my facebook and insta feeds have been riddled with celebrity deaths, politics, and negativity.  It would be easy to look back at this year and say “good riddance” at it’s imminent end, but this year for me has been a year of amazing growth, both personal and professional.  Every year, it seems like it will take forever to reach this point of next year, but it’s truly amazing how quickly it goes.  I cannot wait to see what 2017 brings!  Happy New Year everybody!
